German police have shot dead a person who tried to attack officers with a knife within the city of Gelsenkirchen. The man struck a cruiser with an object and attempted to assault officers who were standing by the vehicle, a police spokesman said.
He was holding a knife behind his back and refused to cooperate with officers, police told AFP press agency.
The man, who was Turkish, was warned by officers to prevent his attack before he was shot but refused.
Germany revised its terror threat level on Friday, citing possible attacks after the US killed an Iranian general., Deutsche Welle reports.
The incident came hours after police in France shot and wounded a person who had rushed towards a gaggle of a policeman with a knife within the eastern city of Metz.
The local prosecutor’s office said the person was on an inventory of individuals monitored for links to militant groups.
